The online conference “United for a New Future” was held on June 26, at the initiative of EU Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Mariya Gabriel, following the virtual meeting of EU Ministers of Culture on May 19.

The conference gathered main EU policymakers and stakeholders from the cultural and creative industries (CCS) in a direct dialogue on what has been done in response to the COVID-19 crisis and on how to tackle jointly a vision and plan for the future of the CCS and Europe.

The list of speakers included Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Mariya Gabriel, Croatian Minister of Culture (Croatian EU Presidency) Nina Obuljen-Koržinek, MEP and Chair of EU Parliament CULT Committee Sabine Verheyen, MEPs Christian Ehler and Petra Kammerevert and CCS representatives including FERA CEO Pauline Durand-Vialle.

FERA CEO underlined that a “Europe of Culture” must be part of a necessary holistic vision for EU’s future, both under- and in a post-COVID world. She highlighted the essential importance of EU support to ensure the visibility of audiovisual works and sustain co-production, which is the essence of European cinema, especially in the context of the COVID-19 crisis.
