The Creators Conference is a European forum bringing together creators, creative industry stakeholders and EU representatives to discuss key issues related to authors’ rights and the digital future. This year, in light of the reform of EU copyright rules, FERA joins forces with the the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), the European Writers’ Council (EWC), and the Federation of Screenwriters in Europe (FSE) in the Creators Conference organised by the European Composer & Songwriter Alliance (ECSA). The preliminary programme is already available and questions related to fair remuneration and sustainability in digital exploitation of copyright protected works will be high on the agenda. The European Commission’s VicePresident Andrus Ansip, in charge of the Digital Single Market, as well as key MEPs such as Pavel Svoboda (EPP, Chair of JURI) and Dietmar Köster (S&D member of JURI) have already confirmed their participation and will exchange views with authors, composers, journalists, film-directors and screenwriters. Further speakers include representatives of EU creative industry stakeholders, as well as consumer representatives.

As the European Commission is moving forward with its EU Digital Single Market agenda and copyright reform, this initiative aims at creating a forum for authors, politicians, industry stakeholders and all interested parties to meet and discuss key issues related to the digital future of European author’s rights, remuneration and freedom of expression.

The day will be broken into keynotes speeches, interviews of prominent EU creators and EU political leaders, and 4 panel sessions on the following topics :

–       artistic freedom and digital opportunities

–       the value of creativity : fair contractual practices, fair deals for creators

–       sustainability in digital exploitation of European works

–       shaping the future : a European, more modern copyright law

The Creators Conference will take place on 31 May 2016 at the Residence Palace in Brussels. For further information and registration, please visit www.creatorsconference.org
